About Us

The Healthcare Technology Accelerator Facility is an initiative aimed at expediting the development and commercialisation of healthcare technology.

The Healthcare Technology Accelerator Facility (HTAF) is based at the Queen’s Medical Research Institute at the University of Edinburgh. By integrating physical scientists, biomedical scientists and clinicians into the same environment and providing the requisite infrastructure (in term of expertise and facilities), HTAF removes the barriers that frequently preclude the development and translation of new healthcare technology.

HTAF provides the following infrastructure to support technology development:

Facilities Capabilities
Physical science laboratories with associated biological validation facilities Support for business development, commercialisation, product design, legal and trial design
Laboratories and clean rooms for instrumentation development and validation Experienced clinical project managers
Synthesis and analysis of chemical entities Experienced translational project managers
Sterile liquid product manufacture Direct portal for industry access/collaboration
Non-sterile manufacture, repackaging and blind labelling of Investigational Medicinal Products Embedded quality management systems for in-human technology development
Access to an MHRA accredited clinical research facility Qualified Person
Regulatory specialists
Translational multi-disciplinary scientists
